Attention to non-communicable diseases is currently increasing.
Two of the ten causes of death are non-communicable diseases. This situation occurs in the world, both in developed countries and in countries with low and middle economies. WHO uses the term chronic disease for non-communicable diseases. Non-communicable diseases are also called new communicable diseases because these diseases are considered to be contagious, namely through lifestyle (Bustan, 2007 cit. Putri and Isfandiari, 2013). Diabetes mellitus (DM), better known as diabetes is a non-communicable disease caused by impaired insulin production by the pancreas gland or can also be said to be impaired function of the insulin hormone. The hormone insulin functions to regulate the balance of sugar levels in the blood. As a result of impaired insulin production or function, there will be an increase in blood sugar levels above normal limits (Yunir, 2007).
